G2 Esports have parted with longtime in-game leader Jacob "valyn" Batio. He joined the organization three years ago, signing together with the rest of the 2023 Ascension-winning roster, which had previously played under The Guard banner before that organization failed to sign the Team Partnership Agreement.
With G2, valyn was part of a team that dominated the Americas region. An eight-event streak of international qualifications began with a second-place finish in Stage 1 2024, followed by third place at Masters Shanghai. Over the three years the team won four domestic titles and reached at least the top eight at every international event. Their closest shot at a trophy was a second-place result at Masters Bangkok.
Champions Shanghai was valyn's last event with the core. G2 entered as the fourth seed and finished in fourth place. The organization later secured a place as a partnered team for 2027.
"All good things come to an end," valyn said in a short video, adding that the last years with his teammates had been amazing. He said he was sad they never reached the highest level together, but still considers the journey great.
He also hinted at his next move, saying he believes it will reignite his career. G2's roster now consists of jawgemo, BABYBAY, trent and leaf, with Ambrose Lai as manager, JoshRT as head coach and Robert Yip as performance coach.
